Dr. Sunny Shah is the founder of the International Human Rights Council (IHRC) in India, an organization dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights. Born in 1983 in Mumbai, Shah faced significant challenges early in life, including the death of his father in 2005, which thrust him into the role of the family’s primary provider. Despite these hardships, Shah successfully managed his family’s business before turning his focus towards social service.

In 2010, Shah founded the IHRC, which has since gained special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. The organization focuses on a variety of human rights issues, including poverty eradication, prevention of farmer suicides, child labor, domestic violence, and workplace sexual harassment. The IHRC also provides legal aid, counseling, and education to empower individuals to fight for their rights.

One notable campaign led by Shah involves advocating for the rights of approximately 34,000 international students, including many from India, who were falsely accused of cheating in English proficiency exams in the UK. Shah has reached out to prominent political leaders, including the Prime Ministers of India and the UK, to seek justice for these students, whose lives were significantly disrupted by these accusations.
